17 August 2009 Nomadic Charitable Trust Finally Releases Volume 1 Of…..Conservation Management Plan After 3 years in the waiting, the first volume of the all important Conservation Management Plan (CMP) has been released by the Nomadic Charitable Trust (NCT). This hefty report is essentially a route map to the vessel's ultimate level of restoration. A CMP is a required report by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) organisation and the rule of thumb is usually that in order to receive HLF funding, the recommendations within the report must be adhered to. Having a CMP in your possession also gives confidence to other potental funders that you intend to do the right thing. Therefore, we highly recommend that all who are reading this, NPS members or not, download your own copy and explore for yourself the professional's view of how this ship should be brought back to life. This can be done by clicking the link below :- SS Nomadic - Conservation Management Plan Volume 1 After further reading of this report, it can be seen that the level of detail in it is quite astonishing. It contains a very comprehensive breakdown of the ship, area by area and it states that each area (and thus the entire ship) should be restored to exactly the level she was when she left Belfast on 31st May 1911. For the millions of Titanic and shipping enthusiasts around the world as well as general tourists alike, this is fantastic news.
Whilst no definitive option has been decided upon as yet, it can be seen that by approving this report, the NCT are proposing at least, to fully restore the ship to her 1911/1912 condition. However confirmation of the exact level to be undertaken will come with the release of Volume 2 later on in the year.
This report is what we have all been waiting for and the Nomadic Preservation Society, along with numerous other organisations around the world strongly encourage the NCT to decide that full, complete and authentic restoration is the obvious and only choice for a ship of such historical importance and significance to the world.
A thread on this CMP will soon appear on our forum and comments are most welcome. |
